Hello wonderful people, it’s Linh again. How have you been doing? Are you enjoying 2023 so far? I’m dragging this month a bit because my mind is still on holiday mode, but I figured that I could still share some of my favorite holiday moments to you all.
Today’s route is short and sweet:
📍 Celebrating Lunar New Year in January
📍 Updating My Portfolio
Celebrating Lunar New Year
I find December and January (sometimes February, too) to be one of the best months of the year. I love that festive and exciting feeling when everyone starts to decorate their houses, go shopping for the holiday, and then just a few days later, give the new year a warm welcome. For me, I celebrated new year twice this January, so it was like double in excitement, yay!
In Vietnam, we call Lunar New Year “Tet Holiday.” There are a lot of fun activities that Vietnamese people do to celebrate Tet, such as giving out and receiving “lucky money” in red envelopes, eating special holiday food, wearing ao dai (pronounce like 'ow yai' - our traditional costume), going to flower markets, etc. It’s an occasion for family reunions, so people will spend time with their family and visit their relatives. Here are some of the new illustrations I made as well as some photos I took throughout the holiday. In Orange County where I live, Lunar New Year celebrations are big and festive!
Updating My Portfolio
I have finished updating my portfolio with new work, finally. Come and take a look if you are interested!
I’m aiming for book covers as a way to get more picture book contracts in the future. I’ve made two book covers with stories set in Vietnam (see above - I see yellow flowers in the green grass and Listen, slowly) , and now I’m thinking of making another mock cover for stories that are set elsewhere. Let me know if there’s a story that you recommend!
That’s it for today. Thank you for hanging in there with Lynnie Express. Take the best care and have a wonderful day!
